Ruth Ann Mayes
Obituary
Ruth Ann Mayes, age 87, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2023. The youngest of 10 children, she was born on June 14, 1935, to parents Bert and Hazel Marie Chamberlain.
After getting married, she moved from Illinois to St. Petersburg, Florida where she lived for 46 years. Retirement gave her the freedom to move to DeFuniak Springs and she treasured the time she got to spend with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to garden and never turned down a spirited game of cards.
Ruth is survived by her children, Chris Ray and husband Tim, Jim Maienza and wife Diane, her granddaughters, Nicole Cuchens and husband Kennie, and Dana Gomillion and husband Kale, and her great-granddaughters Raylee, Raegan, Kalynn, and Adalyn – all of DeFuniak Springs. She is also survived by her sisters Sue Allen and Nancy Tracy – both of Illinois, and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth spent her last days receiving excellent care at Carington Manor in Crestview, Florida. The family would like to extend a truly wholehearted thank you to the entire staff of Carington Manor for serving and treating Ruth with sincere love, as if she was part of their own families.
Thank you, also, to Covenant Hospice for their care for Ruth and support to the family during this difficult time.
